To Be Part of The Design Club

What does it take to be designer? You certainly don’t need a degree to become one, but if you want to be a part of the club you’ll have to understand and speak the language as the bare minimum. This rings true for a number of professions across the board.

If you want to be a part of them, you must understand and speak their language.

It might sound exclusive, because it is. And it’s the same with how you found your way into your social circles, your internship, your college or university, or how you found your first freelance gig.

Once you familiarize yourself with the culture, the language, the practice, and the process, you’ll win yourself a ticket to be a welcome member to the family.

How can we spread more sweetness in our lives?

Going from meeting to meeting, we bring forth ourselves as who we are at that specific moment in time. We’re human, so we naturally bring embody our emotions wherever we go.

The problem comes when we spread mean things like pent up frustration, passive aggression, or sour insults to one another—nobody wants to be part of your bad day.

So how might we spread sweetness instead? We can start with picking up the small, unnoticed, but important parts of our lives that allow us to do what we set out to do.

You wouldn’t be here reading this if it weren’t for your invisible access to the internet. You wouldn’t be able to drink your morning coffee if it weren’t for the generous coffee farmers on the other side of the world. You wouldn’t be having your lunch if the grocery store staff, or the Uber Eats driver, or the restaurant owner wasn’t there to provide it for you.

We can spread more sweetness by noticing what makes our lives work, giving intentional thank yous, and appreciating how the people around us help with our own lives.

The Dilemma Choice Brings

An off-day presents us the luxury of choosing what we want to do. If not for work, what or who else is on our to-spend-time-with list?

Productivity in terms of output becomes irrelevant when we’re spending time doing things that help us recharge.

Choosing what to do is often the hardest part. You’re a limited resource, and so picking one thing and going with it might be a better strategy than trying to weigh the pros and cons of doing everything at once.

Happy Victoria Day everyone
